I saw the video below this morning and was reminded of a time when I behaved like that while climbing too – but I would only have that sort of temper tantrum when I was climbing with just my husband. The presence of one other person would completely prevent me from being cranky, mouthy, bitchy what have you. Why is that? I often wonder why I thought it was acceptable to be so grumpy with the ONE person in this world who has my back 100% of the time.
Luckily these days I have a much better attitude towards [...] Continue Reading…

Here on the Chicks Climbing Gossip Report you can catch up on all of the great gossip (articles, videos, and other assorted cool stuff) we talked about over the past week at Chicks Climbing.
We had some sad news to report last week, Chicks alumna Holly Mauro, a true ambassador of our Chicks with Picks ice climbing programs passed away at the young age of 32. Fellow alumna Carolyn Riccardi wrote a lovely tribute to her which we posted here. Carolyn is also helping to organize a [...] Continue Reading…

This past February, Chicks Girly Guides Kitty Calhoun and Dawn Glanc took a trip to Iceland with their husbands, and as a team of four collectively put up 12 new ice lines in seven days! Kitty wrote a trip report that has been published on Patagonia’s blog “The Cleanest Line”.

Iceland is frozen in time. Arriving there in February 2012, it was exactly as I remembered from 1998 when I was there to climb with Jay Smith and the late Guy Lacelle – grey, windy, and [...] Continue Reading…

It is always hard to hear news of a Chick passing; we become so connected so quickly with the life-long friends and climbing partners met at clinics that it affects all of our alumnae in one way or another when we say goodbye. On Tuesday evening, 32-year-old Chicks alumna Holly Mauro passed away after a week-long hospitalization. She was an East Coast chick that impacted so many of our alumnae’s lives, especially Carolyn Riccardi, who wrote about Holly’s spirit [...] Continue Reading…

Here on the Chicks Climbing Gossip Report you can catch up on all of the great gossip (articles, videos, and other assorted cool stuff) we talked about over the past week at Chicks Climbing. Our gals at Red Rock have been climbing hard all weekend; we are psyched about how far they have come in such a short period of time! We will get pictures up as soon as we can, but since the Social Media Chick is going to go ice climbing (woohoo!) in Canada [...] Continue Reading…

I purchased the Marmot Ama Dablam jacket late this winter, just a few weeks before my (first) trip to Canada this ice season. I was so psyched to have found it in my size, in a cute color, AND on sale for more than 50% off at REI. Now to be honest I didn’t *really* need a new puffy coat. I had a perfectly acceptable puffy coat that my husband had bought for me years and years ago. I really only wear a puffy coat while belaying, so it wasn’t as if it had worn out or anything like [...] Continue Reading…

The last week in February I excitedly packed my bags for Canada en route to a 4-day climbing clinic based out of Canmore and led by Sarah Hueniken, who has been one of the most popular Chicks Girly Guides to date! (Sarah guided for Chicks in 2007, ’08 and ‘09.) I first heard about Sarah’s clinics from my fellow Chicks alumnae, who had nothing but great things to say about their experience while climbing in her courses up north. The clinic I signed up for was the “Next Step Ice and Mixed” clinic, designed for gals who are working [...] Continue Reading…
