karen mcneillThis scholarship is in honor of Karen McNeill, a well-respected and cherished guide for Chicks with Picks. Karen disappeared with Sue Nott, May 2006, near the south summit of Mt Foraker after climbing The Infinite Spur, one of Alaska’s most formidable alpine routes.  The Karen McNeill Scholarship Fund is made possible by individual donations.    Click here to donate

Karen McNeill was a force to be reckoned with as both a climber and an
outdoor educator.  Karen was an incredibly effective and approachable instructor due to being passionate about her craft and her students’ personal experience.  She had the gift of bringing out the best in others; she was remarkable and never failed to see the remarkable in others.

Karen was a true modern day explorer and world-class alpinist. Of special significance are her myriad of all-female first ascents, including the Cassin Ridge on Denali.  To us at Chicks with Picks, "Curly" McNeill will always be remembered for her sparkles, her flair for fashion, a love of fine chocolate, sense of humor, and her gentle spirit. We will miss and celebrate Karen, forever.
