Winners in the #whyiclimb Chicks & Marmot giveaway!

Friday, October 14th, 2011

Thanks to the dozens of people all around Twitterville that entered our #whyiclimb giveaway sponsored by Marmot.

We had so many inspiring entries from climbing chicks and dudes like:

- “Her strength and grace inspires me. When you see @eliz_rocks climb, you will know #whyiclimb”
- “Normally, I’m unfocused & contained, fear heights, & klutzy. On rock I’m focused, high, free & smooth.”
- “To feel totally alive and to spend quality time with those I love most, that’s #whyiclimb”
- “It’s brought me to amazing and beautiful places, the community, and the constant challenge #whyiclimb”
- “Got tired of horizontal workouts. Now I top out and scream at nests “Take that, BIRDS” & pick things up with my opposable thumbs. #whyIclimb”
- “#whyiclimb Body, mind, freedom, clarity, fun, family, adventure, security, purpose, choice, focus, escape. #love”

But, in the end we randomly drew a winner, which is Hailey Hosken aka @haileyh907. She is the VERY lucky winner of a Marmot Limelight 2-person tent and a Marmot Mavericks 20 Semi Rec Synthetic Sleeping Bag. Congratulations!

But, that’s not all, we had three other entrants that each scored a Marmot Cam 15 Pack. Those lucky winners are: Sarah @cdnrockiesgirl, Anne @AnneFHughes, & George @PrivonG!

Thanks to everyone who entered, it was really fun to see so many entries and so many reasons why we climb.

Speaking of climbing, there’s just one last Chicks Rock! clinic this season, next weekend at Red Rock. You can check out all the details for the clinic here – if you’re interested we need to know ASAP, this clinic is filling up fast and only has a couple of spots left!

Then, it’s time for some ice – here’s our complete list of Chicks with Picks clinics for the 2012 season, we hope to see lots of your bright, shining faces out in Ouray this winter :)

BOILER PLATE ICE. BUTT COLD.
By Mattie Sheafor-Hong

Conditions yesterday were as hard as they get, barring avalanche. disease, pestience or famine. The ice was boilerplate hard, prone to this specious, wicked fracturing calledl “dinner plating” (every contact strike makes a discolored shape about the size of a turkey platter, which means it has fractured around and under the ice and you trust it at your peril). It means a boat load of work on the sharp end and your belayer is probably going to get shelled unless you’ve been very wise and very thoughtful and luck doesn’t hurt.
